Like its predecessor the Murcielago, Lamborghini has flat-out denied any plans to develop a rear-wheel drive variant of the Aventador.
Lamborghini R&D director Maurizio Reggiani told Autocar, “The Aventador can only be four-wheel drive because we have so much power and torque to manage; only with four driven wheels are you able to manage this.
“This is mainly due to the state of the art of the control systems that we have on the car today. So when we plan Aventador derivatives, we maintain four-wheel drive.
“With the Huracan from the beginning, when we were looking at computer simulations and so on, we decided that two-wheel drive was possible without any kind of problem.”
Third party tuning companies do offer a conversion package for a rear-wheel drive Aventador, and one of such company is Oakley Design. Their iteration of a rear-wheel drive Aventador is 130 kg lighter than the all-wheel drive variant, which includes removing the rear drive shafts and differential.
Those seeking a rear-wheel drive Lamborghini should then look at the newly launched Huracan LP 580-2 instead.
