The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) has seized 9 cars after a 3-hour long operation targeting the use of private vehicles in ride-sharing platforms yesterday, 31 October 2015.
Out of the nine cars seized, eight cars was under GrabCar, while one was under Uber. SPAD officers carried out the operation in Bangsar, Pudu, Petaling Jaya, Subang and the Kuala Lumpur City Centre.
The operation to clamp down on illegal ride-sharing vehicles started in October last year, and thus far, SPAD has seized 145 cars, out of which 43 was under Uber, while 89 was under GrabCar. Vehicles used under Blacklane and EasyTaxi was also seized.
SPAD enforcement chief Datuk Che Hasni Che Ahmad said that private vehicles are not allowed to ferry paying passengers. Those caught ferrying passengers are liable to be fined up to RM10,000 or a maximum jail sentence of one year, or both. Ride sharing service providers, on the other hand, are liable to a RM100,000 fine.
