UK customers are now able to book top ranging Golf R at their local dealerships and expect a delivery date of the car in March 2014. A question definitely asked is when will the Golf R arriving in our shores. It may take a little longer considering that the Mk6 Golf R was only released within the last couple of years.
The new Golf R was conceptualised by Volkswagen R GmbH, and its aim is dynamic performance. The sports car is powered by a newly configured 300 PS (221 kW) TSI engine, which is not only 30 PS more powerful, but also 18 per cent more fuel-efficient than the previous engine. Its maximum torque was boosted by 30 Nm to 380 Newton meters. To attain these values, the engine went through a development program similar to that of an engine in motorsports. The perfected 4MOTION all-wheel drive system delivers optimal traction under all driving conditions both on the street and on the race course.
In the new Golf R, a successful concept was carried over to the next generation in terms of styling as well. Signs of the vehicle’s sporty character are found in its distinctive air intakes, specially designed bumpers and side sills and, last but not least, in its dual-branch exhaust system with four chrome tailpipes. The Golf R emphasises sportiness and performance in its restrained yet prominent appearance. Klaus Bischoff, Head of Volkswagen Design, explains: “The Golf R creates an exciting balance between seriousness and sportiness and between restraint and differentiation.”
The current Mk6 Golf R is sold at RM268,888 at the local dealerships. If the new Mk7 Golf R maintains that price range, it would be one of the cheaper 300ps cars around currently on sale!
