Car options may not be a thing for buyers locally, since these days we’re practically forced to buy certain options with the car as standard accessories, even highly unnecessary ‘heated seats’. But more on that later, as for today, we’ll be looking at some of the weirdest car options that actually does exist in other markets, and one that exists here as a standard fit, can you guess which?
1. Kia Forte Koup Lit Speakers
You read that right. The Kia Forte Koup features a pair of front speakers that light up, and pulse to the beat of the music you play. Annoying? Pretty much so, especially on a quiet night you just want to listen to your tunes without any distractions. Perhaps it’ll suit those crowd of teenagers that just got their car keys to their first car.

2. Honda Motocompo
Back in the 80’s, Honda had the City, but in small a hatchback form. Bootspace wasn’t particularly generous, but that did not stop Honda from producing the Motorcompo as an option for the Honda City. Powering the tiny little Motocompo 2-stroke 50cc engine, capable a 30 km/h top speed. Between its production years of 1981 to 1983, Honda only made a total of 53,369 of these little scooters. [not 5 million units as claimed by some sites] (What a great idea, perfect for riding back home after dropping the car off to be serviced. – Ed)

3. Mini Cooper Openometer
Making its debut in the 2009 Mini Cooper Convertible, the openometer keeps track of how long the convertible top has been opened. We at AF are interested in cool features, but even after 5 years, we still cannot fathom why the openomter is actually needed. We can only imagine a group of Mini Cooper Convertible gathering at their local car park, boasting about how many hours they spend in the sun.

4. Citroen C4 Picasso Air Freshener
Well, is it good-bye Ambi-Pur since Citreon’s C4 Picasso (Our local DS3 model also has this feature) actually has a built in air freshener? Well not really, considering that it lasts roughly a month, and costs about £14.95 for each refill. On the bright side, you do get several scents like Floral, Vanilla and Pacific Fresh to fight-off stench.

5. Dartz Whale Upholstery
The controversial whale upholstery has been discontinued by Dartz, due to immense pressure from multiple parties, which included Greenpeace and the World Wildlife Fund.
This is a quote from Dartz themselves. “We were just looking for most expensive products for this car – and that’s why we chose ‘whale penis leathure’ when we checked it was the costliest. After a wave of protest we realised our mistake and make a decision not to use natural leathure at all. We will focus on the world’s most advanced nanotechnologies to achieve the highest quality interior using artificial materials, we want to use (materials) never used for cars before.” (Manure has never been used in cars before, but that don’t make it right does it. – Ed)
