AMG Mercedes Petronas driver, Nico Rosberg was on cloud nine recently. Last Friday, he got married and on Sunday he celebrated Germany’s success in the World Cup Finals. The following day, he signed a “multi-year” deal with the Mercedes team, just in time for this weekend’s German Grand Prix.
“I am very proud to drive the Formula 1 Silver Arrow of the modern era. As a German, the heritage of Mercedes-Benz is very special for me, and I am proud to be able to represent the best car brand around the world. It has been a difficult road to get to where we are now – but everybody kept believing and, thanks to the fantastic support from Mercedes-Benz, we are now leading the way in F1.” said Rosberg.
Keeping with the joyous momentum, Rosberg was supposed to wear a special tribute helmet (as below) in the race at Hockenheim this weekend which features Germany’s flag and the World Cup trophy on the top; commemorating Germany’s recent victory in the World Cup finals. The son of the former F1 champion, Keke Rosberg, has dual citizenship in Germany and Finland, but he grew up mostly at Monaco. Despite that, he remains a proud German.
Unfortunately, football’s world governing body FIFA said an image of the trophy would breach “intellectual property” rights, hence they wanted Rosberg to remove it with immediate effect. Rosberg had no choice but to obey, and instead he modified his helmet’s design (as below) to include only the national flag and four stars to represent four World Cup wins. To be honest, this one is a nicer design than the previous one.
“This will be my Hockenheim World Cup special edition helmet with(out) the FIFA trophy” he said.
Rosberg now has a four-point lead over teammate and archrival, Lewis Hamilton, before the upcoming race at Hockenheim.
