The South Korean government is spending around $100 million to make the metropolis more female-friendly, including the creation of dedicated parking spots reserved only for female drivers.
These parking spots are clearly visible via bright pink painted outlines so it can’t be mistaken with normal parking spots. Apart from that, these parking spots feature a skirted female icon and the dimension of the lot are slightly wider and longer than regular ones.
In terms of safety, these female-only parking spots are better lit and closer to vital the shopping infrastructure, such as elevators, escalators and shoe shops having the best sales. We made that last one up, but the rest is true.
Korea is not the first country to offer female-only parking spots. Closer to home, there are also dedicated parking spots available for lady drivers especially at shopping malls such as Gardens Mid Valley, the Curve and Suria KLCC. Some of these female parking spots are guarded by security to ensure that only women are allowed to enter these areas.
While some might think that these gender-biased parking spots are sexiest, we think that this is a great initiative from the government to protect women from becoming victims of crime.
