It seems most car manufacturers have embraced the downsizing of cubic-capacity via turbocharging. Ferrari has toyed with turbocharging before and now makes a return towards forced-induction with the new California T. Porsche has turbocharged its 911 models for years, and McLaren has been successful with the turbocharged 3.8-litre V8s on its cars. Not so for the former tractor-manufacturing company, Lamborghini, which has held steadfast to naturally aspired engines since its incarnation. Or have they?
Lamborghini revealed that the upcoming Urus sports SUV will be the first raging bull to start using turbocharged engines in the next three to four years. It is believed that the Urus will be powered by the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 from Bentley and Audi. The Urus concept made shockwaves at the Beijing Auto Show two years ago, and word has it that the new turbocharged Urus will be in production in 2017. The Urus is set to complement the Volkswagen Group’s lineup of fast and luxurious MPVs, ranging from the Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne, Volkswagen Touareg and Bentley’s upcoming (and somewhat hideous) EXP 9F.
