Uber has been having a public relations crisis but despite all of that, their user base is still strong. After an ex-employee has written online about workplace sexual harassment and a toxic work culture, Uber is currently looking to fill up those holes. First, with the hire of a new Senior Vice President, Frances Frei, who is an expert on gender equality from Harvard Business School.
This is what Uber needs at their helm to help steer the $69 billion dollar company through their most dire moment. Frances will definitely be a welcome sight at Uber as other top executives have started to leave the tech startup. Joining Frances is Bozoma Saint John, a former Apple executive, who is now joining as Chief Brand Officer.
On top of that, Uber has started working on cleaning up their company culture with a string of employee firings, to start, Uber has fired 20 employees in a report by Bloomberg.
“They’re showing that they’re going to take some concrete steps to address the matter,” said Evan Rawley, a professor at Columbia University’s business school in the Bloomberg report. “This issue is going to keep being at the forefront until the investigation is completed.”
The report also further goes to say that 31 employees are in counselling or training, while seven received written warnings from the company. The issues deal with harassment, discrimination, retaliation and other HR matters.
