At a time of the year when people busy themselves with material festivity preparations and gift-giving, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Sdn Bhd (MBM) made an effort to give 57 children from Angels Children’s Home, Rumah Sayangan and Pertubuhan Rahoma Darul Fakir Malaysia something more meaningful through its annual ‘Christmas In A Shoebox’ initiative, the gift of time.
Led by MBM President and CEO, ‘Santa’ Dr Claus Weidner, this year’s ‘Christmas In A Shoebox’ initiative was hosted at Funtopia, SS15 Courtyard, Subang Jaya.
Entertaining his guests for the day, Dr Weidner was dressed for the occasion in a Santa suit accompanied by his team of merry helpers. The excitement in the children, aged 2 to 19, was evident as they eagerly participated in the fun games and freely explored the exciting obstacle courses at Funtopia, which included climbing walls with differing levels.
“Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is very passionate about doing our part in giving back to the community. We are so happy for this opportunity to host the children of Angels Children’s Home, Rumah Sayangan and Pertubuhan Rahoma Darul Fakir Malaysia for a day of fun and games. Seeing the excitement in these children is such a joy to the team and I, and is a gift in itself. We always look forward to engaging with young people in the community from various backgrounds and hearing their individual stories, hopes and dreams,” said Dr Weidner.
The ‘Christmas InA Shoebox’ programme also included presenting gifts thoughtfully and personally selected by MBM employees to each child. 2016 marks the 8th year the initiative has been running and so far it has reached over 250 children from over 20 homes.
