Malaysians have much to rejoice especially when this goes to production, the ability to use Waze on Android Auto. Given that a majority of the users in Malaysia are Android users, and Malaysia is one of the highest Waze users in Asia, this should be something most will rejoice about. But will they?
Unfortunately, the proliferation of Android Auto is somewhat stagnated as automakers here aren’t exactly pushing for these tech innovations in their cars. We see more Android Auto available at higher specced cars but it is in the near future that we can expect more and more mainstream cars having Android Auto or Apple’s CarPlay as standard.
Back to Waze, a year ago, Google announced that Waze integration was coming to Android Auto and finally, in beta form, it is here. Android Police has reported that the beta is in private mode at the moment. Users who signed up for the beta in April only started receiving the news recently. What can you do with Waze on Android Auto? The usual things, from selecting where you want to go, you can report traffic jams and accidents.
If Google took this long to get Waze on Android Auto, will Apple’s CarPlay ever get that integration? One can only wish so.
