Nissan’s iconic front-wheel-drive GT-R LM Nismo bites the dust, as Nissan has announced that it will withdraw its LMP1 entry from the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship.

According to Nissan, the GT-R LM Nismo programme could not reach its full potential, despite how well the team performed. Nissan has decided to focus on developing its longer term racing strategies instead.

Those employees who were out on a holiday had a rude shock through Nissan’s PR site, which we quote:

Approximately 40 employees at the Indianapolis-based LMP1 program were notified by e-mail the program had been cancelled Tuesday morning, yet with many of the staffers on vacation for the holidays and away from work e-mail, news of the firing, for many, came from a press release the Japanese brand decided to post in its global newsroom.

Those who did turn up for work Tuesday morning were barred access to the building, and senior team officials, who were also caught by surprise, stepped in to call and inform (or confirm) the sudden dismissals for all who worked at the facility.

Nissan’s GT-R LM Nismo has gone through quite a rough road, as issues arose from the energy recovery system (ERS), which resulted in the Nissan GT-R LM running purely on engine power. Even with the powerful 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 engine, the lack of the ERS system meant that the rest of the car’s system was greatly compromised.

Not cool Nissan, not cool at all. That is not the way to fire your employees, what more during the Christmas season.
