VW confirms 9 model variants of the VW brand have false CO2 ratings

Just a month after questions relating to the CO2 figures measured on some of the Group’s models arose, VW has stepped up to clarify the matter.

Separate from the Dieselgate scandal, last month, VW revealed that around 800,000 cars could have incorrect CO2 levels and consequently inaccurate fuel consumption figures. It seems that’s not the case as VW Group says only 36,000 units globally have deviations of a few grams of CO2 on average, corresponding to increased cycle consumption in the NEDC of approximately 0.1 to 0.2 litres per 100 kilometres.

The 9 model variant affected are:

  •          Polo 1.0 TSI BlueMotion 70kW EU6 7-speed DSG
  •          Scirocco 2.0 TDI BMT 135kW EU6 6-speed manual
  •          Jetta 1.2 TSI BMW 77kW EU6 6-speed manual
  •          Jetta 2.0 TDI BMT 81kW EU6 5-speed manual
  •          Golf Cabriolet 2.0 TDI BMT 81kW EU6 5-speed manual
  •          Golf 2.0 TDI BMT 110kW EU6 6-speed manual
  •          Passat Alltrack 2.0 TSI 4MOTION BMT 162kW EU6 7-speed DSG
  •          Passat Variant 2.0 TDI SCR 4MOTION BMT 176kW EU6 7-speed DSG
  •          Passat Variant 1.4 TSI ACT BMT 110kW EU6 6-speed manual

These models will be remeasured by a neutral technical service under the supervision of the appropriate authority by Christmas to determined the correct figures.

The Group’s subsidiaries Audi, Skoda and Seat have also agreed a similar procedure with the approval authorities responsible for the vehicles initially considered.

The VW Group originally set aside 2 billion euros to pay for the CO2 crisis, but has not announced whether this figure will be scaled down in light of the latest findings.
