In commemoration of Bridgestone Malaysia’s 15th anniversary, the company has contributed RM 75,000 to the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) as the sponsor for the “Relay For Life Malaysia” cancer awareness charity event. “Relay For Life” is a franchised event from the American Cancer Society (ACS), which runs in over 20 countries across the globe.
The 16-hour event held on 5th and 6th September at Dataran Petaling Jaya was flagged off by the Guest of Honour, Y.M.M Raja Permaisuri Perak Darul Ridzuan, Tuanku Zara Salim. Bridgestone Malaysia staff and family members, together with cancer survivors, their caregivers and the general public, took turns to walk the track from 6pm on Saturday to 10am on Sunday in support of cancer awareness, and to pay tribute to those who have lost the battle against the disease.
People from all walks of life participated in the relay, including VIP guest Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, Miss Malaysia World 2015 winners and finalists. Besides raising cancer awareness, the event was filled with fun, comradeship and festivities.
In efforts to enliven the spirit, Bridgestone Malaysia prepared a host of activities with exciting gifts to be given away to raise funds for NCSM during the carnival. By contributing RM5, visitors to the Bridgestone booth received a free tyre gauge and a chance to play a game of Mini Golf. Putters who scored a hole-in-one got to spin the Bingo Cage and win fantastic prizes. At the end of the day, a total of RM315 was raised throughout the event. The public could also take funny and creative pictures at the Photo Wall and share them on Bridgestone Malaysia’s Facebook page, for a chance to win a set of four Bridgestone tyres.
Mr. Jo Takekawa, Managing Director of Bridgestone Tyre Sales (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. said, “Bridgestone’s commitment and contribution in “Relay For Life” underlines the company’s efforts in supporting the local communities by taking initiatives directed towards addressing local issues, such as cancer awareness. We hope to create a better understanding of this deadly disease and to promote prevention and early detection.”
The funds raised during the “Relay For Life” event will be used to educate society about early detection and prevention of cancer, as well as provide suitable care for cancer patients via access screening facilities. Part of the funds will also be allocated to organize future events to support cancer patients and their caregivers, to improve their quality of life.
