Alright folks, this is it. Say hello to the 2016 Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupé, the hottest variant of the newly released C-Class Coupe. Official debut, according to Mercedes-Benz, is set to happen at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show later this year.
Despite the C63 S Coupé’s relation to the regular C-Class Coupé, much of the bodywork is new on the AMG. The only shared parts are the doors, bootlid and the roof, while the rest of the body is unique to the AMG. Outside, the C63 S Coupé can be differentiated from the regular C-Class Coupé by the larger air intakes up front, bespoke twin-blade radiator grille, swollen wheel arches, bootlid spoiler, larger brakes and front splitter.
Under the hood lies a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine that’s plucked from the AMG GT S, but with even more firepower. Mercedes-AMG has managed to squeeze out 510 hp and 700 Nm of torque, which goes through a lightning-quick AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT-7 seven-speed sports transmission to the rear wheels. Thanks to the generous amount of power, the C63 S Coupé can sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds, while the 476 hp/650 Nm C63 Coupé does the same sprint in 4.0 seconds. Both cars have an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h, or 290 km/h with the optional AMG Driver’s Package.
Apart from the power difference, the range-topping C63 S Coupé features an electronic differential at the rear, while the C63 Coupé comes with mechanical rear differential. Both cars will have the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT transmission modes as standard, while the C63 S Coupé comes with an additional “Race” mode.
Safety wise, both Coupés will come with standard with the ATTENTION ASSIST drowsiness detection system, COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS and more.
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia will be launching the C63 AMG sedan in the Q4 this year, and we do believe that in the following months, the Coupé could also make a local debut. Stay tuned!
