Apple just started their World Wide Developers Conference this week and usually in these conferences mostly software and tech updates are shared with developers and programmers around the world. One thing which is noted for the automotive industry is the inclusion on new updates to Apple’s CarPlay.
So what is CarPlay? CarPlay is Apple’s first step into the automotive entertainment system. It not only connects your phone to the big screen and lets you control it via touchscreen but it also works in a way that it utilises existing buttons for some vehicles. At WWDC, Apple announced again that CarPlay is still on schedule and can also be connected wirelessly (via bluetooth I presume).
The good thing which Apple did was open up CarPlay to automotive apps, meaning in the ideal situation, you can use CarPlay to control your other functions within the car or perhaps (fingers crossed) display OBD2 related information.
While Apple did announce new enhancements to Siri as well as introduce their music streaming service, that also meant that you can enjoy that on CarPlay as well. Still it has been a while since Apple has announced CarPlay but take up hasn’t really been exactly strong.
