Mark Darwin of Team Sakura-Tedco Racing made an exciting debut Touring Production class when he won the second round of the Malaysia Touring Championship (MTC) at the Sepang International Circuit.
Starting from pole position, Mark Darwin finished 22 laps around the Sepang International Circuit, in a one-hour endurance race in his Honda FD2R. Mark was driving solo and led the race from the beginning. He managed to climb back to pole position after the three-minute compulsory stop after 11 laps.
“We were actually building the car for somebody else. He wrecked the car in Round 1 and asked us to re-build it. When we completed the job, he decided not to run it; believing that he had too much bad luck. So, we decided to give a try and we won. We are unsure whether we will run the car in Round 3 because we need to return the car to the owner. So, I am unable to comment on my plans for Round 3. Anyway, we are very happy with the outcome and the team really did well,” said Mark Darwin, who also said that the win was completely unexpected.
Round 1 winner and championship leader Chris Tan and Alan Wong of Pentagon Racing finished in second place, even with an additional 30 kg ballast for this round.
The third round of MTC will be held from June 5 to June 7.
