Emily Yap was recently announced as the grand prize winner of the #ShellPledge contest, which was held in conjunction with the Shell FuelSave College Competition 2014.
As the grand prize winner, Emily will be among the first in the country to own a brand new Mazda2, co-sponsored by Bermaz Motors Trading Sdn Bhd.
Shell also presented a Samsung Galaxy Tablet each to 3 second prize winners, a Jawbone Bluetooth Portable Speaker each to 5 third prize winners and Starbucks Gift Cards to 20 consolation prize winners.
The #ShellPledge contest was introduced in the 2014 Shell FuelSave College Competition that challenges students from public and private universities to plan and execute an integrated marketing and communications campaign to promote fuel efficiency and educate Malaysia’s Gen Y drivers on smarter driving habits.
This year, participating teams were tasked to persuade members of the public to make a commitment to practise fuel efficiency by making a #ShellPledge. The student-led call for pledges was driven through a month-long social media campaign, as well as on-ground activities designed to reach out further and drive the #ShellPledge.
The teams took up the challenge of collecting pledges and did an outstanding job in winning pledges by emphasising the importance of being fuel efficient, along with the chance to win the new Mazda2.
The #ShellPledge contest ran in October 2014, during which members of the public had to submit a photo and caption on Instagram or via www.shell.com.my/shellpledge with a message on smarter driving habits and fuel efficiency tips. Submissions were hashtagged #ShellPledge to be eligible for the contest.
Grand prize winner, Emily Yap, was overjoyed with winning the Mazda2.
“It’s unbelievable! I am absolutely ecstatic to have won the car. My husband told me about this contest and I thought it would be fun to enter but never thought I would actually win,” she remarked excitedly.
We certainly learned quite a bit about the Shell FuelSave Tips through the students and practising these simple tips has definitely contributed to our fuel efficiency. I am thankful to Shell Malaysia for this wonderful prize and I stand by my #ShellPledge to continue practising fuel efficiency in my daily driving,” she said.
Among the Shell FuelSave College Competition 2014 teams, IACT College garnered the most number of #ShellPledge and was awarded a cash prize of RM2,000 for their efforts. In November, IACT College also emerged as the champion of the overall Shell FuelSave College Competition 2014, winning RM15,000 in cash and potential internship opportunities with Shell Malaysia and its media and communications agency partners. Taylor’s University came in second, while Universiti Putra Malaysia came in third place, taking home cash prizes of RM8,000 and RM5,000 respectively.
