As teased earlier, Lexus has finally taken the covers off their new GS F sedan, before the actual debut at the Detroit Motor Show, next week.

The Lexus GS F sedan is set to give the BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG a run for their money. However, the Lexus GS F is 136 kg lighter than the BMW M5, but with almost a 100 horsepower deficit. No surprise here, as the Lexus comes with a naturally-aspirated 5.0-litre V8 engine while the BMW M5 has a turbocharged 4.4-litre V8. The V8 in the GS F makes 467 horsepower at 7,100 rpm and 527 Nm of torque from 4,800-5,600 rpm. Power from the V8 is transferred via an 8speed automatic to a Torque Vectoring Differential before reaching the rear wheels.

So what is this Torque Vectoring Differential is supposed to be? Basically, it is Lexus’s type torque-vectoring system for a front-engine/rear-drive vehicle. The electronically controlled Lexus TVD optimally distributes torque to each rear wheel regardless of whether the accelerator is pressed or not. The TVD is optional on the RC F coupe, but comes as a standard fitment on the GS F sedan. And yes, the Lexus TVD requires its own ECU. The Torque Vectoring Differential will allow for 3 different modes, namely Slalom, Circuit and Standard. Most drivers will leave it in Standard mode, as the computer will decide whats best for you. Those seeking to attack the twisties can select the Slalom mode, as the steering response will be sharpened, while those who loves cruising on the highways can select Circuit, as that mode enhances high speed stability.
