Nearly two years ago we were shown the Volkswagen Passat B8 at the VW Das Event. Originally, the Passat B8 was slated to arrive here in 2015. Things were relatively quiet in 2015, and spyshots of the new Passat first surfaced in June 2015.
Thanks to some undisclosed sources, we can confirm that Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) will be bringing in two variants of the Passat B8. The first is powered by a 1.8-litre TSI engine that pushes out 180 PS and 250 Nm, while the range-topping variant gets powered by a 2.0-litre TSI engine that produces a healthy 220 PS and 350 Nm. From what we understood, the 2.0-litre variant will be mated to a six-speed wet clutch DSG.
Engine aside, the new Volkswagen Passat B8, in its range-topping trim will feature LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, wood panel trim, leather upholstery, paddle shifters, seat chiller, tri-zone air-conditioning, keyless entry with push start button and infotainment system with GPS navigation. On top of that, we can also expect the Passat B8 to feature Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) plus Active Info Display. The latter is similar to the Virtual Cockpit that’s currently fitted to Audi models, including the TT. The Passat 1.8 is likely to be fitted with aluminium trim on the inside.
Price wise, we predict that the new model will be priced in the same ballpark as the outgoing model, in the RM180,000 region. Stay tuned for more updates.
