It appears the new Volkswagen Golf has become the best car to buy on this planet as just recently, the Volkswagen Golf Mk7 has become the first non-Japanese car in 34 years of award’s history to win Japan’s prestigious Car of the Year (COTY). This is the third COTY title for the Golf after taking victories in the World’s COTY and European COTY for this year alone.
Volkswagen’s answer to the C-segment hatchback market, which scored an impressive 504 points out of 600, gained a comfortable lead of 131 points over the second placed, Honda Fit/Jazz, while the Volvo V40 finished in thrid place. The key components of the new Golf, which includes the innovative Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) modular chassis , overall design and top of class TSI engine impressed the Japanese jurors. The Golf was also well received with 13,000 orders from Japan, a breakthrough for a non-Japanese car in the Japanese market.
“We are delighted that the Golf is the first imported car to win the main prize in the 34-year history of Car of the Year Japan. This award is dedicated to everyone who has supported Volkswagen in Japan over the past 60 years,” said Shigeru Shoji, Volkswagen Group President in Japan (above).
So even if you are not a car person and someone asked you which new car to buy, your safety-net answer could now be “Volkswagen Golf Mk7”. Hey, after all, a 5-star NCAP rating and 3 International COTY awards can’t all be wrong, right?
