BMW Group Malaysia has recently announced that its 7 Series now features new technological advancements in its BMW ConnectedDrive offering to further complement the car’s stylish design, luxury, comfort, dynamism and top class efficiency to deliver further improved safety and in-board services.

Dr. Gerhard Pils, Chief Executive Officer of BMW Group Malaysia said, “In the luxury segment, having the most powerful engine and having the most expensive material is just simply not enough. Luxury is defined by premium aesthetics and substance and this is what our flagship model, the BMW 7 Series offers. Not only do we have the most powerful engine in the segment but also, the most efficient in terms of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Now we further distinguish ourselves in the segment in terms of in-car technology and connectivity.”

BMW ConnectedDrive in the new BMW 7 Series brings together an extensive range of mobility services which now includes an extensive selection of assistance and driver safety systems. This includes the full-colour, sharp-resolution BMW Head-Up Display for the BMW 730Li which will project relevant driving information directly into the driver’s line of sight, allowing the driver to process it up to 50% faster while still keeping his or her attention on the road. This premium feature, coupled with its unique range of functionality, will further enhance the in-car experience of both driver and passengers when utilizing the range of assistance systems, as well as infotainment and entertainment features.

The Multifunctional Instrument Display will also come as standard for the BMW 730Li to ensure drivers achieve a unique driving experience with a choice of different colours and ambient mood settings according to the range of selections available via Driving Experience Control. Meanwhile, the interior of the BMW 740Li will feature a new sports leather steering wheel with gearshift paddles to further highlight the BMW 7 Series as the ultimate statement of sporting luxury.

The now enhanced driver assistance systems from BMW ConnectedDrive are one of the characteristic features which will serve to deliver even more of the hallmark BMW driving enjoyment which is unmatched by any other luxury sedan. To continue building its position as the world’s leading provider of in-car services, the new BMW 7 Series will also feature a more enhanced link-up of car, driver and outside world with further advancements in the Driving Assistant system to raise the levels of in-car safety. The Driving Assistant features that will be added to the new BMW 7 Series to provide a more comprehensive safety package are;

Lane Departure Warning – a driver assistance system that is based on a video sensor to help drivers keep their attention on the road ahead. The Lane Departure Warning feature recognizes when the vehicle is straying out of lane unintentionally, and will provide the driver with an early warning with a discrete vibration of the steering wheel. The system also takes the vehicle’s speed into account, providing a warning earlier when the vehicle is travelling at higher speeds, so the driver always has adequate time to correct the steering before the lane markings are crossed. To prevent unnecessary warnings, the system will automatically deactivate in city traffic or at speeds below 65km/h.

Forward Collision Warning – a brake application function to prevent collisions by providing warnings should the driver approach a vehicle ahead too quickly. This system issues a visual and acoustic warning if there is an imminent risk of collision and when required, will initiate a braking process.

City Collision Mitigation – it prevents collisions by automatically braking, at speeds of up to 60km/h with the aim of preventing collisions with other vehicles. Also new is the Pedestrian Protection feature which functions similarly to City Collision Mitigation but with the aim of preventing pedestrian collisions.

Active Cruise Control 740Li

For further driving comfort, the BMW 740Li will feature additional Driving Assistant Plus features which includes;

Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go – a function innovated to deliver optimally relaxed driving even in heavy traffic. The Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go keeps drivers at a constant distance from the vehicle ahead at all times. When traffic comes to a halt, the system applies the brakes until the vehicle comes to a standstill and will then automatically move on as soon as the road is clear. Active Cruise Control will keep the vehicle at a preferred constant speed within a range of 30 to 210km/h and will automatically adapt to maintain a distance to the vehicle ahead. The Stop&Go function meanwhile is able to control the speed when the vehicle slows down to a standstill and then automatically moves on as soon as the road is clear.

Traffic Jam Assistant – it will help drivers in monotonous situations on the road. In dense traffic at speeds of up to 40km/h, the system allows drivers and vehicles to move easily along with the traffic while staying relaxed by automatically maintaining the desired distance from the vehicle ahead. It also regulates the car’s speed right down to standstill as well as provides active steering support to help the driver stay on track.
