Bernie Ecclestone has promised that he will work into making Formula 1 ‘loud’ again. In a recent report, the F1 chief executive said that he is “horrified” by the sedate purring tones of the new turbo V6 era, arguing it will drive race promoters and spectators away, well, yes we think so too!

The screaming sound of the old V8 engine is gone, and in its place is a huskier decibel level, complete with whistles and whirrs from the turbo. After the opening season of the Formula 1 2014, Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) chairman Walker, a close friend of Ecclestone, has made his feelings plain to the 83-year-old, to such an extent he is checking the small print in the contracts between the two to see what recourse he may have.

“I was absolutely delighted with the whole weekend, but I was not too happy with the sound,” said Walker, speaking to Melbourne newspaper The Age. “We are resolving that with Bernie. It’s clearly in breach of our contract. I was talking to him last night (Sunday) and it’s not what we paid for. It’s going to change.

“I walk in the botanical gardens and you could hear the sound of the twin-seater F1 car of Paul Stoddart’s sweeping around the circuit, but you couldn’t hear these new turbo cars. If you sat in the grandstand you could hardly hear them coming down the straight,” added Walker in a statement.

Walker said he has spoken to his friend Ecclestone, while Ecclestone admitted he has been on the phone with FIA president Jean Todt. “What I’ve said is that we need to see whether there is some way of making them sound like racing cars,” the 83-year-old Briton told the Telegraph.

“I don’t know whether it’s possible but we should investigate. I think let’s get the first few races out of the way and then maybe look to do something. We can’t wait all season. It could be too late by then,” said Ecclestone.

If you are wondering what Ecclestone mean by the ‘horrid F1 engine sound’, the video below will give you an audible reference between the new engine sound and the previous engine sound, from the last F1 season.
