Those looking forward for the 2018 Subaru WRX to be based off the newly launched Impreza will be disappointed as the company has confirmed that the 2018 model will be just a facelift.

According to motoring.com.au, a senior engineer reaffirmed that the 2018 model will be just a facelift, as he said, “The WRX will have a facelift soon, not a full model cycle, because the new model just launched in 2015, that’s only last year.

Full model change is expected to happen between four to five years, and that is when the market can expect to see the new WRX, he added. He is confident that the new platform will make the WRX a better car, but that’s won’t be happening until much later.

It’s not the cost, but everything goes through a production cycle. You can’t shorten that production cycle, there’s many things to consider such as durability testing and likewise. It’s not as simple as taking the turbo engine out of one car and presto, off you go. You’re talking about complete suspension tune and a development team. It’s a big process.”
