Datuk Shamsubaharin Ismail is the founder of Big Blue Taxi. In the past, he was very vocal about the legalization of ride-sharing services.
He claimed that the arrival of ride-sharing services like Uber and Grab had negative effects on the taxi industry.
However, Shamsubaharin made a police report yesterday after a taxi driver robbed his company of RM8,000 several days ago and went missing. According to Shasubaharin, the driver in his 50s has been driving for Big Blue Taxi for six years. “I have helped him out so many times and this is how he repays me,” he said.
Shamsubaharin has urged the government to hasten the regulating process of Uber and Grab, as he said that taxi drivers were stubborn. “I support the approval of Uber and Grab Car services,” as quoted by The Malay Mail.
The case will be filed under the Land Public Transport Act. Section 43, in which the taxi company will be held liable if a taxi driver commits a crime. Big Blue Taxi’s boss claimed that his case is the first time a taxi company has been responsible under the Section. “The existing law we have is already strong but Land Public Transport Commission must be more effective proactive in ensuring that we don’t allow unethical and immoral people to work as taxi drivers,” he added.
