Volkswagen Malaysia’s official site has dropped a teaser of the upcoming Jetta facelift, a long overdue update since the car was launched in October 2011.
In fact, countries around the world have received the updated Jetta since 2014, making us one of the very last few markets to receive the facelifted model. The actual launch date remains unknown for the time being.
Whilst the Jetta is powered by a range of petrol and diesel engines throughout the globe, it is possible we could be seeing the return of Volkswagen’s EA111 1.4-litre twincharged TSI engine mated to a seven-speed DSG. It is also possible that we could see Volkswagen fitting in the newer but more efficient turbocharged engine that is found in the updated Golf.
However, if Volkswagen Malaysia wants to get the Jetta Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) certified, they may want to fit in the newer EA211 engine, which consumes between 5.0 and 5.2 litres of petrol per 100 km, unlike the EA111’s 6.0 litre per 100 km. The EEV certification would allow Volkswagen to sell the car at a more competitive price against its key rivals, including the recently launched Honda Civic.
Of course, we expect more details to be released in the coming weeks so do stay tuned for that!
