Crash tests are tough. Organizations like Euro NCAP goes through a lot of hassle setting up and calibrating sensors and electronics in a crash test subject before crashing the car.
Despite that, Euro NCAP has seen fit to crash test a golf cart. No, really. They obtained and put a Club Car Villager in their standard crash test routine, including front and side impact crash tests at 50 km/h. As you’ve guessed, results aren’t pretty.
During the frontal collision test, the entire front end of the golf cart collapses, sending the dummy legs right into the dashboard. In the side collision test, the lack of side impact beams meant that whatever vehicle that crashes into the golf cart will injure the driver’s legs.
Granted, golf carts like the Club Car Villager was never designed to be driven at 50 km/h. These carts are often used in low speed situations, like driving around in a golf course. Even so, this is a gnarly reminder that golf carts like these should not be driven on public roads with full sized vehicles.
