Volvo Car Malaysia has launched the country’s first Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), the new locally-assembled Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine. The launch also commemorates the Swedish national day.
In addition to being the country’s first PHEV, Malaysia is the first country outside of Sweden to assemble the XC90 T8 Twin Engine, courtesy of the investments made by Volvo to enhance existing infrastructure of the local plant to handle Volvo’s SPA.
The locally-assembled XC90 T8 Twin Engine follows the successful launch of the SUV last year which marked the entry of Volvo’s latest generation of vehicles built on the flexible SPA platform into the country.
Powering the Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine is a turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-litre petrol engine paired to an electric motor. The end result is a monstrous 407 horsepower while emitting just 49 g of carbon monoxide per km. The electric motor, when combined with the petrol engine, outputs a maximum of 640 Nm, allowing the XC90 to hit 100 km/h from standby in just 5.6 seconds.
The locally-assembled Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine benefits from the government’s EEV incentives, which allowed VCM to price the XC90 at a competitive RM403,888. The stated price is OTR without insurance. Specifications are identical to the CBU version from before.
