Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) is set to debut the updated Volkswagen Jetta some time next week. But before that happens, let’s take a closer look at the new model’s alleged specifications.
For starters, VPCM will be offering three variants of the updated Jetta, all likely powered by a 1.4-litre TSI turbocharged engine that outputs 150 PS and 250 Nm. When coupled with the 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG), the Jetta can sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 8.6 seconds, with a top speed of 220 km/h. Volkswagen says that the combined fuel economy of the updated TSI engine is 5.0 litres/100 km. Further fuel savings will come from the included engine start/stop with regenerative braking.
First up is the Volkswagen Jetta 1.4 Trendline. Standard equipment for this variant possibly includes the RCD 220 radio with USB, SD card slot, AUX-In and 6 speakers, manual air-conditioning, rear air vents, central locking system with SAFELOCK, auto-dimming interior rear-view mirror,, Multi-function display ‘Plus’, tilt & telescopic steering wheel, instrument cluster with electronic speedometer, odometer and trip odometer, tachometer and adjustable front driver’s center armrest with storage. Black trim can be found on the centre console, with Zebrano decorative trim for the dashboard and door trim. The seats on the Trendline gets Sienna fabric upholstery. Outside, the Trendline gets 16-inch Sedona alloy wheels with 205/55 R16 all round, a chrome front grille, halogen headlights with manual reach adjustment, front and rear fog lights, electrically adjustable, foldable and heated exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals with environment lighting and curb view, heat insulated windscreen all round, LED rear license plate light and front and rear Park distance control (PDC). Twin tail pipes completes the Jetta Trendline’s exterior, we believe.
Moving one level above is the Jetta 1.4 Comfortline. This variant possibly adds Climatronic air-conditioning system with 2-zone temperature control, RDC 330G radio with a 5-inch touchscreen display with USB and iPod interface, SD card slot, AUX-In, Bluetooth, MirrorLink and 6 speakers, leather-wrapped steering wheel, gear level and handbrake, steering-mounted audio controls and hands-free telephone controls, split-folding rear backrest with centre armrest with load-through provision and a lockable, illuminated and cooled glovebox. As for the exterior, the Comfortline is said to add on automatic headlight activation with ‘Leaving Home’ function, automatic wipers and dark tail lights. A set of 16-inch Mambo alloy wheels with 205/55/R16 rubbers all round is said to be fitted to the Jetta Comfortline.
Last but not least is the Jetta 1.4 Highline. The range-topping variant is said to further add on Black Vienna leather upholstery inside, cruise control, “Keyless Access” with keyless locking and engine start and paddle shifters. Exterior wise, the Jetta Highline is expected to further include Bi-xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights, headlamp washer system, LED tail lights and a set of Queensland 17-inch alloy wheels with 225/45R17 tyres.
On the safety front, all Jetta variants is said to receive 6 airbags, ABS with Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill Hold Control, anti-theft alarm system with immobilizer, interior monitoring and towing protection, brake pad wear indicator, ISOFIX child seat mounts, a full-sized spare tire, safety-optimised front head restraints, 3-point rear seat belts plus seat belt reminder all round.
Bookings are now opened for the updated Volkswagen Jetta, with prices starting from RM110,000 to RM130,000. The Volkswagen Jetta will be available in four colours: Candy White, Platinum Grey, Reflex Silver and Deep Black.
