Subaru will be launching the all-new 2017 Impreza in Japan in September. The new Impreza is the first model to utilize the company’s new Subaru Global Platform (SGP).
In Japan, buyers will get the choice between a Subaru Impreza Sport and a Impreza G4 sedan. Both models will be equipped with the company’s FB20 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Boxer engine with direct injection. Subaru says that the Impreza can output 154 PS at 6,000 rpm, which is transferred to all four wheels or the front wheels via a Lineartronic CVT.
Engine details aside, what sets the Subaru Impreza apart from its rivals is the standard pedestrian airbag and EyeSight. Now in its third iteration, Subaru’s EyeSight system is able to detect pedestrians around the vehicle, not just in front of it.
In addition to that, the new SGP platform, according to Subaru, boasts a collision absorption amount that is 1.4 times of its predecessor. Furthermore, Subaru has reinforced key structure points around the platform of the new Subaru, making the new compact sedan tougher than before.
Further details will be made known once the vehicle officially debuts. Stay tuned!
