Honda has unveiled a teaser of the Honda Civic machinery for the 2014 World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) during Honda’s annual motorsport press conference in Tokyo held last week. The image of the new Civic WTCC, taken during the team’s first test session in Aragon, Spain – reflects some of the latest technical regulations for the 2014 WTCC – wheel arch extensions, 18” wheels, sleeker aero package and extended rear spoiler. All WTCC cars of 2014 will increase their engine output to 380 HP.
“We achieved four victories and captured the Manufacturers’ title in 2103 that was our first year of full-participation in WTCC. In the upcoming season we will strive to win the double title for Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ fielding a total of four cars run by three teams.” said Takanobu Ito, President & CEO of Honda Motor Co. Ltd.
For this year, Honda’s challenge in WTCC will be spearheaded by the works drivers of Gabriele Tarquini and Tiago Monteiro – under the ‘Castrol Honda World Touring Car Team’ banner. The other two Civics will be piloted by privateers Norbert Michelisz and Mehdi Bennani.
