Let’s put it this way, the Ford TX3 was THE car to own back in the late 80’s and early to mid-90’s. It was a boy-racer’s dream come true and anyone worth the RON97 in his veins wanted one, really badly. Yours truly included. It was not cheap either, priced more than RM60k, it did however, have 140bhp right out of the crate.
While those may not be earth-shattering figures in this day and age, back when this car was new, it was the dog’s dangly bits, believe me. It was not till the mid-90’s that I was finally able to afford one though, and whilst I’ve gone through a slew of cars since then, the TX3 has always held a place in my automotive heart.
Having procured one recently (see article in ‘Classics’ section), I was invited by the local “Sampan Darat” (literally translated, ‘land boat’) FB group to attend their first ever gathering for this legendary hot-hatch. It was really heart-warming to see so many TX3 enthusiasts who are still passionate about this car.
Since the event which happened on 25th January, more and more TX3 owners have been emerging from all over the country, and owners are now part of this growing fraternity. If you own a Ford Tx3 1.8, do check out this page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ford.sampan/
