Back in 2009, Buggati announced the 16C Galibier luxury concept car – imagine the Bentley with the front nose of a Veyron, and you guess it, it’s not pretty looking. Well, five years later, Volkswagen Group chief Martin Winterkorn has mentioned that the Buggati Galibier project has been canned, to make way for a new Veyron.
From the words of Winterkorn confirmed that “The Galibier is officially dead.We won’t do it. In its place will be a second-generation Veyron with more power.”
The Galibier has went thought development hell and was stated to be launched either in 2015 or 2016. Set to be Buggati’s flagship vehicle, the super saloon will be powered by the W16 engine from the Veyron, producing approx 800bhp. With tentative pricing starts at £900,000, it is somehow a smart move made by Volkswagen as its better for them to concentrate on the more profitable Bentley or Audi premium limos, so it can provide more funding to Buggati to craft these maniacal speed machines. It would be interesting to see how the new Veyron will react to the recent onslaught of hypercars from McLaren P1, Ferrari LaFerrari and Porsche 918.
