BMW Group Malaysia announced their participation as the automotive partner in the 12th Edition of the Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) 2014.
Present at the announcement, Dr. Gerhard Pils, President and CEO, BMW Group Malaysia said, “BMW has had a long history and commitment of being involved in the sport of sailing all over the world. The sport serves as one of three main sporting initiatives that we are committed to worldwide which also includes motorsports and golf. Our commitment in the sport of sailing is at every level, from the premium amateur level events in the likes of the BMW Sailing Cup International program which is the largest and most prestigious amateur sailing competition in the world to competitions such as the Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez as well as the European Dragon Championship which are world class sailing competitions.”
Dr. Pils added that much like himself, the premium automaker has a special interest in the sport of sailing in that the sport is the perfect example of low emissions mobility which is the core philosophy behind BMW EfficientDynamics, BMW’s innovation strategy for reduced fuel consumption and emissions in their vehicles
“The sport of sailing and BMW EfficientDynamics have many common denominators but the most clearly demonstrated is that both utilise the principles of aerodynamics for fluid, efficient and dynamic movement. Aerodynamics is a very important element in achieving Sheer Driving Pleasure which is the promise that we at BMW deliver.” said Dr. Pils.
The Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) 2014 which will take place around the islands of Langkawi, Malaysia is scheduled from the 13th to 18th January 2014. The annual event has been attracting sailors from all over the world, categorized into 11 classes. The competition this year has already received registration of more than 30 yachts.
The Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) 2014, is organised by the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club (RLYC) and sanctioned by the ISAF and Malaysian Yachting Association (MYA) and supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Malaysia. The RLIR is part of the Asian Yachting Circuit.
