ASEAN NCAP recently conducted a series of crash tests on models that are produced for the Indonesian market. The models that were tested include the 2015 Toyota Hilux pickup truck, that is also available in our local market.
Based on the assessment, Toyota Hilux scored comfortably well in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) with 14.53 points (4-Star category) and achieved similar rating in its Child Occupant Protection (COP) with 71% compliance. However, due to the 5-Star prerequisite in AOP, only variants with Electronic Stability (ESC) are rated 5-Star; those without are rated as AOP 4-Star. The tested model was equipped with 3 airbags, with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Seatbelt Reminder (SBR) for frontal occupants are standard across all variants. ESC is only available on variants with 7 airbags. ISOFIX and top tether are standard in all variants.
Toyota Hilux is the fifth pickup truck model assessed by ASEAN NCAP after Isuzu D-Max (March 2014), Chevrolet Colorado (March 2014) and Mitsubishi Triton (July and August 2015). Mitsubishi Triton underwent two assessments for its standard and higher variant.
The premium variant of Triton’s AOP score of 15.22 (5-Star) leads the rating of pickup trucks tested by ASEAN NCAP. This is followed by Chevrolet Colorado at 14.19 (5-Star), Toyota Hilux came in third with 14.53 points (5-Star), base/standard variant of Mitsubishi Triton at 13.56 (4-Star) and finally Isuzu D-Max with 11.87 (4-Star). Nevertheless, in COP, Triton obtained the lowest score between the three other models with only 48% compliance (2-Star), Colorado met 63% compliance (3-Star) and both D-Max and Hilux had a higher score of 71% (4-Star).
