I have to be honest here. Football support hasn’t been one of my top priorities for more than a decade. I still remember the days where I would camp at bars and pubs in the UK keeping warm and watching football on telly or even travelling far to various places in the UK just to catch a football match live.
Perhaps it is a shift in interest, perhaps not. But then last week I got a call from a good friend of mine who had extra tickets to catch our Malaysian football team battling Vietnam in the Suzuki Cup 2014 at the Shah Alam Stadium. After a great 2 hour match, I was saddened that the team lost but was completely impressed with the support of the local fans. The stadium was packed to it’s brim and I had to stand throughout the entire match.
Although Malaysia lost at that match, they managed to bounce back in Vietnam and claim a place in the final. Now today, is the day the 2nd leg of the finals is held at 8.00pm Malaysia time at Bukit Jalil Stadium.
So what is an automotive website writing about football? Well, if you hadn’t notice, it is the Suzuki Cup after all and throughout the matches, the Suzuki Swift is proudly displayed next the pitch directly behind the keeper’s goals as well.
Because it is the Suzuki cup, a reader, Kevin Yap Kit Loong, managed to capture our local Suzuki Club Malaysia having a gathering. The group is gathering to head towards Bukit Jalil Stadium to give our boys their cheer.
Its times like this that amidst the whole divide and conquer atmosphere in the air, Malaysians from all walks of life get together with a common goal, which is to support our boys in winning the Suzuki Cup.
So if you are available tonight at 8.00pm, don’t forget to catch our boys on telly. The team is currently running behind a 2-0 lead so the team definitely needs a 3 goal advantage to win the cup. I am sure everyone is cheering them on, well I guess partly with the hope that our gracious Prime Minister might grant us a public holiday on Monday.
