The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has implemented a ‘one-way-loop’ system that involves Jalan Sultan, Jalan Barat, Jalan Utara, Jalan Timur and Jalan Yong Shook Lin, Petaling Jaya. This has caused chaos amongst road users since it went into effect at 12.01pm yesterday, catching out many who were not aware of the new ‘flow’.

The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has demolished road dividers at 8 locations along the route to cater to the new one-way loop. According to MBPJ, the new traffic system was intended to improve traffic flow in the Petaling Jaya (a.k.a. PJ State) in addition to providing opportunities for landowners in the vicinity of Section 52 of the Town Centre to develop their land. The one-way system will be implemented on a trial basis for 3 months starting October 12, 2014 until January 12, 2015 .

Many road users voiced their frustrations with the new enforcement, reports The Star. A motorist C. K. Tan, said he did not know how to get to Jalan Yong Shook Lin. “The directions are very confusing and I have no idea how to head to Jalan Yong Shook Lin. I had to cancel my lunch plans there because I was just driving in a loop,” he said.

A. Yasmin, who planned to visit the Petaling Jaya Palms Sport Centre, was also left frustrated and was forced to cancel her plans.

“I drove around many times and I did not know how to enter Lorong Sultan. I had to eventually cancel my swimming plans. I am very upset that my weekend was ruined by this poorly managed one-way-loop,” she said.

Apart from that, there was a lack of traffic police officers to help direct traffic and ensure smooth flow. Even after the new traffic system was implemented –  which was supposedly to ease traffic congestion –  cars could still be seen heading in both directions and there was still road chaos with a bumper-to-bumper crawl that spilled over onto the Federal Highway.
