Although it looks positively an off-roader or ‘scrambler‘, the new Kawasaki KLX150L is also positioned as an urban machine, well-suited for daily commuting. It won’t take long before someone slaps on a set of street tyres on those 21-in front and 18-inch rear wheels to make it a mini ‘motard‘ of sorts.
Powered by an air-cooled 144cc single-cylinder, 4-stroke engine that produces 12Ps and 11.3Nm of torque, the bike is exceptionally light, tipping the scales at a mere 115kg, with a 7-litre petrol tank.
Stopping power comes by way of a single 240mm twin-piston disc up front and a single 190mm single piston disc in the rear. Suspension wise, the KLX150L uses 33mm telescopic forks in the front and a 5-way preload adjustable UniTrak for the rear.
Coupled with an upright riding position and an electric-starter, the KLX150L should make for a very able daily commuter, at home in the city as well as the occasional off-road excursion.
