The all-new Nissan Navara (code NP300) was just launched in Thailand, and while AF has not received any details of the impending Malaysian launch, we’ve managed to obtain more information and photos from our counterpart in Thailand.
The lead-up to the new Navara’s launch involved more than 40,000 tests and more than 1,000,000km of driving before the eventual truck was introduced.
Built on a sturdy ladder-‘box’ frame chassis, the Navara has a 31-degree approach and 25.6-degree departure angle, and rides on steel double-wishbone front suspension and under-slung rigid leaf-spring rear suspension.
The 4×4 system features ‘shift-on-the-fly’, which allows drivers to go from 2WD to 4WD (high) at speeds up to 100km/h. An Electronic Locking Rear Differential ensures that the correct amount of power is transferred to rear wheels with the most grip. Additionally, Hill Descent Control and Hill Start Assist takes the guess-work out of steep ascents and descents. Furthermore, a Brake LSD (limited-slip differential) ensures safer acceleration on slippery surfaces.
Transmissions wise, the new Navara is available with either a 6-speed manual or an (truck) industry-first 7-speed automatic. In terms of powertrain, the Navara is powered by a YD25DDTI in-line 4-cyl, DOHC, 16-valve VGS common-rail intercooler turbodiesel engine. Curiously, the output varies significantly between the auto and manual variants; the 6-speed manual variant churns out a respectable 163bhp and 403Nm of torque, while the 7-speed auto produces a whopping 190bhp and 450Nm of torque.
Specifications may vary of course, from the versions launched in Thailand and the one(s) that we’ll be getting in Malaysia, and in terms of price, the new Navara retails for between Bt575,000 and Bt996,000 depending on model. As we have yet to test drive the new Navara, here’s something to chew on in the meantime, the official press release from the Navara’s Thailand introduction, in English: THAI_final_by Earth
