For those who approved of the S65 AMG’s imperious performance, but weren’t so taken by the idea of four doors, Mercedes has now introduced a Coupe version of its S-Class dubbed the S65 AMG Coupe.

Just like the Saloon, SL65 AMG and G65 AMG, the S65 AMG Coupe features a 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 engine producing 621bhp and 1,000Nm of torque. Driving the rear wheels via a seven-speed Speedshift automatic box, the engine can take the S-Class Coupe to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds (0.2 seconds quicker than the S65 AMG) before hitting an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h.

Power is channelled to the rear wheels through an AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC while the sports Magic Body Control suspension benefits from the already familiar curve tilting function. It rides on 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels wrapped around in 255/40 R 20 front and 285/35 R 20 rear tyres with an optional ceramic compound brake system which is 20% lighter.

There are subtle styling difference that separates the V12 from its stablemates. Some of the changes include a shinier mesh for the front grille and vents, yellow brake callipers instead of red, unique wheels along with a more prominent rear diffuser and the “V12 BITURBO” badging.

Inside, there’s a heads-up display and Mercedes’ new touchpad, while the AMG-developed sport seats are electrically adjustable, equipped with memory function and heating. Climate control is standard too, and an exclusive package adds in Nappa leather upholstery, diamond-pattern perforation for the seats, Nappa leather roof liner, a leather-lined dashboard, door centre panels in a diamond-pattern design, leather-clad roof grab handles, chromed door pins as well as AMG stainless steel door sill panels illuminated in white.
