Mercedes-Benz announces new expansion plan in Malaysia

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Sdn Bhd has started construction on its new warehouse in Pekan, Pahang. This is part of the brand’s on-going investment and expansion strategy in Malaysia.

The massive 175,000 sq ft customised warehouse, about the size of two and a half soccer fields, is located a mere three kilometres from its Pekan assembly plant, will be used to house completely knock down (CKD) kits for Mercedes-Benz passenger vehicles, as well as Mitsubishi FUSO commercial vehicles. The new warehouse will have a capacity of 180 complete lots at any one time.

The construction of the warehouse will be undertaken by Nilai Mahir (M) Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Kumpulan Hamodal Sdn Bhd and the warehouse construction is expected to begin in June 2014 and will take approximately 15 months. The new Mercedes-Benz Malaysia warehouse is expected to be fully operational by September 2015.

The Mercedes-Benz assembly plant in Pekan, Pahang assembles the coveted Mercedes-Benz S-Class, E-Class and C-Class passenger vehicles, as well as Mercedes-Benz and Mitsubishi FUSO commercial vehicles. To date, the plant has produced a total of 33,790 units of passenger vehicles, and 18,215 units of commercial vehicles.
