The Lamborghini Super Trofeo series kickstarted in 2009 and relied on the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 to provide some of the most exciting one-make race thrills for race fans all around the world. The street-going Gallardo was retired late last year, replaced by the new and impressive Huracan. That effectively means Lamborghini is looking into replacing the Gallardo with the Huracan for the Super Trofeo series.
The Huracan LP 610-4 Super Trofeo will be a stripped-out, track-tuned racing version of the standard Huracan, and will be powered by a 602bhp 5.2-liter V10 with all-wheel drive. There is a possibility the standard double clutch gearbox will be ditched in favour of a race car based sequential gearbox. As expected, upgraded brakes, suspension and improved aerodynamics will be included in the Huracan LP 610-4 Super Trofeo.
With that, the Squadra Corse team is hard at work on their new Super Trofeo racer. The Italian firm has also recruited racing drivers Fabio Babini and Adrian Zaugg to develop the Huracán LP 610-4 Super Trofeo into a decent GT race car. Both drivers came with an illustrious CV, Babini is a GT racing veteran who took a class win at Le Mans in 2001, while Zaugg came up the formula racing ladder, competing on A1GP and GP2 before signing on as a Lamborghini factory driver.
There’s a possibility that the new Huracan LP 610-4 Super Trofeo will make its debut at this year’s Blancpain Super Trofeo World Final at Sepang this November, where the series’ top drivers from America, Europe and Asia will fight for glory in this All-Star race. Stay tuned!
