Depressed with the recent Thomas Cup results? Then there’s reason for Malaysians to cheer up as our national Formula One hopeful, Jazeman Jaafar, secured another podium finish at the Formula Renault 3.5, with the Malaysian flag flying high at the Principality of Monaco! The Formula Renault 3.5 is part of the support race during the Monaco F1 Grand Prix weekend.
Jazeman looks to have found his strength with street circuits like Monaco, having settled at the top three during practice rounds and qualifying in second. Last year during his rookie year at the Formula Renault 3.5, he secured his first podium by finishing third.
When all lights went green, the charging Marco Sorensen had a slightly better start off the line and unfortunately, snatched Jazeman’s second place. However with series leader, Carlos Sainz Jr behind, the Malaysian defended hard, keeping Carlos at bay for the remaining laps. In the end, Jazeman crossed the finish line in third, marking his second consecutive third place at the track in this series.
The joyful Jazeman says “It’s been a great Monaco and I’m very happy to have achieved my first podium of my season. Racing in front of the F1 crowds adds another dimension to the occasion and in addition to all the fans, I was very proud to have raced well with a large contingent from PETRONAS attending, including Tan Sri Dato’ Shamsul Azhar Abbas, President and Group CEO of PETRONAS. It was particularly special to see the Malaysian flag flying for the podium celebration.”
Let’s hope Jazeman maintains his momentum when the next race kicks off at the legendary Spa circuit this weekend!
