When the current Polo GTI was released, Volkswagen said that they were only making a DSG variant. Now here in Malaysia we all know about Volkswagen and the DSG 7-Speed but that hasn’t stopped enthusiasts from picking up a Polo GTI because the car itself was a very nicely balanced car. Even so with the bitter sweet memories of a price increase for the car, I guess the only thing hardcore enthusiasts might look forward to is a refreshed Polo GTI with a manual gearbox.
In Malaysia the word manual seems to be a taboo word for people who plan which models to bring in. Sales figures aren’t exactly high and sometimes it isn’t just worth it to bring them in. Overseas however, it does make more sense and having that optional manual gearbox does provide some with savings as well.
So what has the news about been saying about the next upcoming Polo GTI? It should be ready in the first half of 2015 but unsure if it will hit Malaysian shores by then. It will have a slight boost in power and torque and there is a chance it will come with a manual gearbox. If it does, I can definitely see this car being extremely popular amongst car enthusiasts.
The current Polo GTI starts from RM152,888 onwards, has 177.6bhp and 250Nm of torque.
