A Four Day Ban For Heavy Vehicles Amid CNY

In conjunction with the Chinese New Year Festival, the Transport Ministry has announced a four-day ban on heavy vehicles nationwide, along with a temporary speed limit reduction.

The ban and speed limit reduction will be enforced on 27 and 28 January, and 1 and 2 February. The ban is divided into the following categories:

  • All-Time Movement Ban: This applies to heavy vehicles with a BDM over 7500 kg.
  • Movement Prohibition: This applies to heavy vehicles transporting goods or travelling without any load.
  • Movement Ban from 6 am to 6 pm: This applies to mobile cranes and cement trucks.

As for the speed limit reduction, federal roads will be lowered from 90 km/h to 80 km/h, and state roads will be reduced from 80 km/h to 70 km/h.

The purpose of this initiative is to ensure smooth traffic flow and reduce the risk of road accidents during the festival period.

The mix of heavy vehicles and private vehicles increases the risk of traffic congestion, and the speed reduction is part of the Royal Malaysia Police’s Op Selamat initiative.

“To ensure compliance with the road ban, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) will intensify enforcement activities nationwide through the 2025 Chinese New Year (TBC) operation and joint operations with other enforcement agencies,” the ministry said in a statement.
