Apple has been extremely secretive about their self-driving car program. Much like the rest of the company shrouded in secrecy, the self-driving car program has certain regulations to meet especially if they intend to run tests on public roads. Because of that, whenever one of the vehicles get into a spot of trouble, the company is required to file in a report of that.
Thanks to the Department of Motor vehicles (DMV) in California, a report was made to them and is available online. The Apple self-driving car which is a Lexus RX450h was trying to merge into a lane at 1 mile per hour before it was rear-ended by a Nissan Leaf. Both parties claimed that the damage was moderate and that there were no injuries reported.
The whole self-driving endeavour would have been a closed secret by Apple’s standard but due to the new regulations surrounding self-driving cars, it is important that companies disclose it to the right agencies to be able to keep track. According to a report by TechCrunch, the DMV in California has already received 40 reports of accidents relating to self-driving vehicles.
