A Tesla Model X crashed into the median barrier on Highway 101 in Mountain View, California. After the electric SUV crashed to the barrier, two other vehicles hit the Tesla Model X causing a fire.
The driver of the Model X was brought to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to injury. Why did this get a lot of coverage is because electric cars are still uncommon around and fires started by electric car batteries are different compared to conventional gasoline-powered cars. This would put Tesla in the spotlight as crash investigators dig deeper into the cause of the fire.
A Good Samaritan at the scene of the Tesla Model X car crash described the car to be “actively emitting full flames from the battery bank.” https://t.co/n78v5ekcgV pic.twitter.com/EVGqKJnhcR

A Tesla employee was brought in to assist in removing the car’s battery. The aftermath of the crash looks insane as witnesses on the scene shared it on Twitter. Tesla has mentioned in a statement to Electrek that in order to extinguish a battery fire, the firefighters are required to use a large amount of water.
