Will this ever end? Rhetorical question. In another development following the recent debacle over a taxi driver who charged two men a whopping RM950 for a ride from KL Sentral to Setapak, this has just happened….
According to the Star Online, a part-time waitress named Lee, 52, was asked for RM400 for a taxi ride from KLIA2 to Wangsa Maju, having initially agreed to a sum of RM100.
Apparently, she initially wanted to hail a GrabCar, but the taxi man insisted that his fare of RM100 would be cheaper at that hour. She suspected something was amiss when she got in and noticed the meter was covered with a piece of cloth.
Upon arriving at her destination though, the taxi driver demanded RM400 instead, which of course she did not have, so the taxi driver asked her to settle the balance ‘the old fashioned way’, to have sex with him in lieu of the RM300 balance. Lee lodged a report at the Wangsa Maju police station.
This is getting way out of hand. Are we forever going to be at the mercy of taxi drivers like this, who actually seem above the law?
What is being done to curb instances like this? What’s the penalty? A slap on the wrist and back to work you go perhaps? Again, is it any wonder why more and more are opting for Uber and Grab instead?
What do you think should be done? Tell us in the comments!
