Perodua has reached a historic milestone when the millionth Myvi rolled off the production line over the weekend, making it the most produced model ever under the Perodua brand.
“The Perodua Myvi has set a new standard for us in terms of product offerings as well as customer expectations and it is our benchmark for all our future models,” Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Datuk (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh said.
To commemorate this occasion, Perodua had a special “line-off” ceremony at the company’s manufacturing facility in Sungai Choh, Rawang which was officiated by Perodua Auto Corporation Sdn Bhd (PCSB) President, Mr Masanori Takahashi and PCSB Vice President, Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad.
Introduced in May 2005, the Perodua Myvi was Malaysia’s number one car model until the end of 2014. The model continues to be among the top best-selling models in the country currently.
“Also, based on our internal calculations – all our models, the Myvi, Alza, Axia and Bezza retain their spot as the most preferred vehicles in their respective segments. We wish to thank all Malaysians for their support,” Aminar added.
For the first five months of 2017, Perodua sold 81,900 vehicles which is an increase of 5.9% from 77,300 units sold in the same period in 2016.
“We estimate that the total industry volume for the first 5 months of the year to be 233,700 units. Based on this number, our market share for the year so far is at 35%,” Aminar said.
“We are cautiously optimistic of achieving our 202,000 sales target for this year despite the continued tough and challenging market condition,” he added.
Besides Malaysia, the Myvi is also available in 6 other countries including Mauritius, Brunei, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Fiji and Nepal under the Perodua brand.
The Myvi’s biggest export market is Indonesia under the Daihatsu Sirion brand with nearly 31,000 vehicles sold since the year 2007. In total, Perodua exported 35,400 Myvi/Sirion models since 2006 in these markets.
