Naza Kia Malaysia, the official distributor of KIA vehicles in Malaysia has introduced the diesel variants for its Sorento and Sportage models called the Sorento HS Turbo Diesel and the Sportage GT Turbo Diesel. Both vehicles will be available at all Kia showrooms nationwide from today onwards.

The new award winning models are highly-developed with a premium level interior, an award-winning exterior design, ridingcomfort, excellent fuel economy with a more efficient choice of engines and of course good overall performance being “class above” competitors,” said Dato’ Samson Anand George, Group Chief Operating Officer, Automotive Group, Naza Corporation Holdings.
He also added that although it may have taken a while to introduce the new turbo diesel engine of the new Kia Sorento and new Kia Sportage in Malaysia, “We are confident that we have done everything possible to make the wait a worthwhile one and it will be another success story since there is a big demand of diesel variant in the market”.
Kia Sorento HS Turbo Diesel
Just like its petrol variants, the front end of the Sorento HS Turbo Diesel incorporates projector HIID with adaptive light system headlamps as well as a huge radiator grille, with a distinctive three-dimensional cubic mesh pattern. The Sorento HS Turbo Diesel is also equipped with 19-inch premium allow chrome wheels.
The styling of the Sorento HS Turbo Diesel’s cabin follows a ‘modern and wide’ theme, providing the interior with a stable, horizontal layout and appearance. Its leather upholstery creates a modern luxury feel to the cabin and gives the SUV a genuine premium vehicle ambiance.
The Sorento HS Turbo Diesel has a number of advanced on-board technologies to improve convenience and further enhance the vehicle’s ownership experience. This includes Multimedia Infotainment System, 7-inch TFT LCD screen on the supervision cluster, a smart power tailgate, 10-way power assisted driver seat, seat variations for the 7-seater, Smart Parking Assist System, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), electronic parking brake and drive mode select system, allowing the driver to choose from Normal, Eco or Sport.
Under the hood, power is supplied by an R 2.2 CRDi engine which produces 200 PS and 440 Nm of torque. Power is channeled to the wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The front suspension is fitted with Macpherson Struts to improve ride quality while the rear suspension is fitted with a Multi-Link suspension which incorporates both superior ride and handling stability.
Occupants can expect class-leading safety features available in the Sorento HS Turbo Diesel which include 6 airbags, vehicle stability management (VSM), electronic stability control (ESC), anti-lock brake system (ABS) and hill-start assist control (HAC), all encompassed in an Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) body structure. This high level of safety helped the Sorento HS Turbo Diesel to achieve 5 star ratings from Euro NCAP and NHTSA NCAP as well as was selected as IIHS’s Top Safety Pick.
Available in Bronze (new), Snow White Pearl, Aurora Black Pearl and Silky Silver colour, the Sorento HS Turbo Diesel 2.2L CRDI is priced at RM191,888 (on-the-road with Insurance inclusive 6% GST).
Kia Sportage GT Turbo Diesel
Like its petrol variant, the new ‘GT Line’ specification is also available in the diesel model. It features a distinctive new ‘face’ with elegantly designed headlamps with LED daytime running lights, ice cube LED fog lamps and Kia’s hallmark ‘Schreyer’ grille.
Inside the cabin, a range of advanced on-board technologies such as Multimedia Infotainment System, 6-speaker sound system, a supervision cluster with a large 4.2-inch TFT-LCD screen and driver and passenger power seats are all available as a standard feature in the SUV.
The Sportage GT Turbo is powered by a 2.0-liter CRDi diesel engine, producing a total output of 185Ps and 400Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Dynamax AWD offers a higher level of safety by intelligently distributing traction forces.
The front suspension is fitted with Macpherson Struts to enhance steering response and provide a comfortable ride feel. The rear suspension is fitted with a Multi-Link suspension that boosts ride comfort and driving stability.
In terms of safety, the Sportage GT Turbo feature 6 airbags, anti-lock brake system (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), vehicle stability control (VSC) and hill-start assist control (HAC), all encompassed in an Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) body structure. This resulted in a maximum safety rating score of five-stars in the Euro NCAP crash performance tests.
Available in Cherry Black, Mercury Blue, Fiery Red, Snow White Pearl and Mineral Silver, the Sportage 2.0L AWD GT CRDi is priced at RM159,888 (on-the-road with Insurance inclusive 6% GST)
