In 2016, Perodua sold more than 207,100 vehicles, roughly 35.7% of the total industry volume of 579,600.
On top of achieving their highest ever market share, Perodua remained the number one preferred brand in Malaysia for the past 11 years.
Speaking about the total industry volume, the company sees a minor improvement to the market with a 2% growth to 590,000 for 2017, compared to 579,600 in 2016. Perodua President & CEO Datuk Aminar Rashid said that the company aims to captured 34% of the market share or shift 202,000 vehicles this year.
Despite that, Perodua managed to grow it’s export market volume by 6℅ in 2016 to 4,700 units from 4,400 in 2015. Majority of the vehicles are exported to Indonesia. Other export markets include Sri Lanka, Brunei, Mauritius and Singapore.
Looking at profitability, Aminar added that Perodua will invest more in their after sales service. In 2016 aloe, in excess of 2 million vehicles visited Perodua service centres nationwide. The increase in service intake meant that service revenue went up to RM682 million, versus RM600 million in 2015.
The decreased demand in 2016 saw Perodua producing 213,000 vehicles, versus 229,000 units in 2015. For 2017, Perodua foresees production to be further reduced to 197,000, reflecting their sales target for 2017.
